On 15 October 2026, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases announced publication of its first ever Expert-Based Practice Opinion clinical guidance document.[1] The 2025 European Association for the Study of the Liver Clinical Practice Guidelines expanded hepatitis B treatment eligibility. The guidelines do not recommend treatment for all HBV DNA-positive individuals.[2] Current treatment guidelines from both the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the European Association for the Study of the Liver are mainly based on serum HBV DNA, alanine aminotransferase levels, and liver histology.[3]
