A randomized controlled trial has found AI-facilitated individualized nutritional guidance improves short term outcomes after gastrointestinal cancer surgery. The study was published 29 October 2026 and indexed on PubMed.[^1]

90 patients undergoing laparoscopic gastric or colorectal cancer surgery were included. Participants were allocated 1:1 to receive either AI generated guidance reviewed by a clinician, or standard discharge dietary advice. Follow up duration was 30 days.

Primary outcome measured was energy intake adequacy of at least 90% of individual target at 30 days post discharge. The AI guidance was produced using DeepSeek v3.2 with ABC-structured prompts.

The trial received funding from the 2024 Wu Jieping Medical Foundation CSPEN Clinical Nutrition Research Project. It appears in Supportive Care in Cancer, the official journal of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer.
