Two European randomised controlled implementation trials have found the SMILe-ICM integrated care model reduced cumulative incidence of acute graft-versus-host disease among adult allogeneic stem cell transplant recipients. The study was published 24 October 2026 in Annals of Hematology, and is indexed on PubMed.[^1]

152 participants were randomised 1:1 to either usual care or the intervention. SMILe-ICM is a multicomponent model combining eHealth with advanced practice nurse-led self-management support.

Authors reported cumulative incidence of acute GvHD was 34.2% in the SMILe-ICM group. Funding for the work was provided by Universitätsklinikum Freiburg.
