Medical Xpress published guidance October 21 recommending GLP-1 users experiencing reduced appetite consult a doctor for referral to an accredited dietitian.

Approximately 500,000 Australians use GLP-1 medications for diabetes. Additional users take the drugs for obesity and weight-related conditions.

Documented nutritional risks from GLP-1 use include thiamine deficiency, metabolic acidosis, low magnesium and low blood sugar.

Guidance filed October 23 also advises people with IBS to consult a qualified dietitian before adjusting fiber intake.
